Next up from Google… world domination?

image

Ok, so I’m really happy for the way Google is advancing modern technology in so many ways. Not admitting that Google has created a huge online revolution would be stupid.

But I cannot watch Google’s latest I/O Android keynote and turn a blind eye on them.

Their latest proposal: have Android everywhere. Not just your phone. Not just your computer. Not just your tablet. But literally everywhere.

Forget the privacy issues. This is all about Google trying to have control over every single device we own. Remember Terminator’s Skynet? Well, we’re getting there.

Of course I’m just over-reacting here. First of all I don’t expect Google to suddenly take over the entire market with Android products. And I definitely don’t expect the apocalypse to come from this. But I do think that it is not right for a company as big as Google to be omnipresent in our lives. It just gives them too much power.

Having a system in which all the devices at home and at work can talk to each other would be ideal. But it should not happen this way.

The most impressive moving LEGO set EVER!

image

Some people make some amazing stuff. Then some Japanese guy MAXES IT OUT TO ITS FULLEST!

Who hasn’t played with LEGO? Well, this Japanese guy made the most impressive moving LEGO set I have ever seen (admittedly combining it with non-LEGO pieces).

It is seriously worth giving it a look, even if you don’t watch the entire video just look at the first part. You will be really impressed. Or I’ll eat my shoe.

Rebecca Black’s “Friday” or “How Internet fame is unbelievably stupid”

image

Have you ever heard of Rebecca Black? How about the music video “Friday”?

No? You haven’t?

Don’t worry. You haven’t missed much, other than the fact that the Internet can sometimes become a craziness of instant fame. And not always in a good way.

This is the tale of Rebecca Black, a girl who was inspired by teen pop sensation (with an equal amount of both fans and haters) Justin Bieber. She is quite a good singer, has a nice voice (as you will be able to see later on in the last video), but she ended up recording one of the most hilariously awful music videos ever.

Don’t believe me? Watch below!

Rebecca Black’s “Friday” original music video:

Gotta make my mind which seat I can take”? "Today is Friday, tomorrow is Saturday and Sunday comes after"? I mean, I’ve heard some really pointless teen song lyrics, but that doesn’t make the fact that this is laughably bad any further from the truth.

Somehow that video went viral. It spread around the web like wildfire. And it also received a lot of extremely negative reactions.

And with negative reaction comes the parodies. Parodies like this one:

Aaaahhh…. the magic of the Internet! You see, Rebecca Black’s original video is, as of this writing, almost 40 million views! In only one month! Talk about instant fame!

The girl seems to be taking it quite well though. Look at her on ABC news! And yes, she sings without any sort of vocal enhancements this time, and she actually sings quite well.

Watch ABC’s Good Morning America video here (embedding is disabled for ABC videos)

Too bad that her reputation is probably now down forever… But at least you got extremely rich in the process! (She sells her single on iTunes).

The luckiest moments you will ever see! – VIDEO

image

First of all, yeah, I know I haven’t updated in quite a while. But there is a reason for that (I want to post Andoni Garrido’s latest short movie, but with English subtitles).

Secondly, it is very hard to concentrate sometimes in class when the person next to you is watching a video in which every 5 seconds you want to jump out of your seat.

So seriously, if you want to feel the thrill for some minutes, watch the following video compilation from Youtube user N0bodyyy of the luckiest moments of the year. Everything from almost being squashed by a train to avoiding falling to your death as in the picture above.

Fired for holding a glass of beer on Facebook! – REALLY?

image
Ashley Payne, 24 years old, as seen on her Facebook album – Photo taken from CBSNews.com

Wow. Just WOW! This is exactly the kind of thing that really upsets me. The fact that some people understand so wrong the idea of the distinction between public and private life.

According to CBSNews.com in a video report, a 24-year-old public high school teacher in the US has been offered to either resign or be suspended from her job because of one picture she had on Facebook in a trip to Europe.

In her PRIVATE photo album she can be seen visiting some Italian and Spanish bars and, in some of the pictures, she is holding either a beer or a glass of wine. As Ms. Payne herself commented, she just did what any normal adult would do on a vacation trip to Europe.

But one parent didn’t seem to think the same. He somehow managed to see the picture and proceeded to call the high school’s director to complain about it. This led to the accusation against Ashley Payne, who decided to resign.

Have we gone mad?

These are not pictures of a teacher drunk in the middle of the street we are talking about. They are pictures about the normal, private life anyone has.

I can understand that she, as a high school teacher, has certain responsibilities towards the students she educates. But it’s not like she has been publicly posting the photos in the school’s halls or anything. It’s her private Facebook profile, in which she has none of the high school students as a friend, and therefore, they can’t see her pictures at all.

Why, then, is this happening?

It’s not the first time something like this has happened either. I have already heard way too many scared comments from US friends saying that they do not want any pictures of them with a beer close by because it will lower their chances of getting a job, that many companies look at their prospective employees’ Facebook pages before hiring.

Really? Well, yes, it happens. But it makes me think why an employer might be so interested in these things. Are they looking to hire an employee who never drinks? It’s understandable that they wouldn’t want to hire a person who is always partying out and appears to end up in a bad state every time. But getting to such extremes as to decline someone because they have a social life is plain crazy.

And it really worries me that this is happening way too often in the USA. In fact, I really believe that the North-American society should learn a little bit of common sense from the European.

I’ll put myself as an example: I have pictures in parties in Spain, the US and Denmark all alike. In some of the pictures I can be seen holding a drink. Now though, those pictures are not available to everyone, but only to the people I have explicitly allowed to. In any case I am quite public about my personal activities (even though I respect other people’s privacy wishes) and I do not mind if, for example, a teacher of mine sees a picture of me at a party.

Because after all, should a teacher be concerned that a student of his is drinking? If the student is underage of course it should concern the teacher. But otherwise it shouldn’t be as long as the student keeps passing his exams and turning in the homework. The same goes for jobs: if the employee is doing his tasks, what does an employer have to say in the matter of him going out at night?

If you want to hear more on this topic I suggest you watch the following video from CBSNews.com in which, besides telling the story of Ashley Payne, also offers some interesting comments about online privacy.
